Digging Into the Bones

As if I held a brush and trowel

As if I sought the past

The bones and trace

Of your past place

Where you had sighed or scowled.

A touchy proposition, yes

But worth the kindly search.

It needn’t take certificates

It needn’t take the Church.

Friend, just a kindly listening ear

And just a nod or smile.

Will help the healing to progress

Will prove quite worth the while.
